1 to 10 of 50 ways to market for free or low cost on the Internet
First of all, when it comes to marketing, quality is much more important than quantity. I am not going to give you a list of viral marketing link sites or anything like that. They will produce traffic, but they will not produce customers. Here are some of my suggestions:
1. Write and submit articles to the article directories. This is by far one of the best ways to start positioning yourself as an expert in your field. Write short (approx 500 word) articles. Then submit them to article directories such as:
Www.ezinearticles.com, www.articleworld.net
Www.findarticles.com, www.freearticles.biz
Www.articlecity.com to name a few. You might want to search for article directories for additional sites.
2. Leave comments on other people’s blogs with a backlink to your site. This can be a lot of fun. Search out blogs related to your topic. Make sure you are responding to POSITIVE based blogs and articles, the negative one’s will always come back to haunt you. Never try to change someone’s mind or give a controversial opinion. Leave positive and uplifting comments that attract people to you. Read the various articles and then leave a comment. Make sure the comment is relevant an on topic. Most bloggers (including myself) delete spammy comments. Then always place a link back to your website.
3. Answer questions on www.answers.yahoo.com. This can be habit forming and be careful not to get caught up in reading the comments and answers. Just find relevant questions and answer them from a positive point of view. Give value to the person asking the question. Set up a 360 page on Yahoo with your links and profile.
4. Post in forums and have a link to your site included in your signature. Same as above, just search for forums in your topic. Find relevant threads and respond but be sure they too are on topic and offer some good information to the reader. Once again I will stress the importance of keeping it all positive. NEVER post a comment on a negative thread. Those will do you more harm than good and you will never change anyone’s opinion. Plus, commenting on their negative thread will only make their negative comments come up more often, so stay away from those.
5. Write a press release and submit it to www.PRWeb.com or Free-press-release.com One word of warning on www.Free-Press-Release.com. It is a good way to practice creating press releases, but many of the directories and news feeds do not carry their press releases. Although some do, but it is a good place to start.
6. Advertise your website in the appropriate category on www.CraigsList.com. Craigslist is a great place to start but be aware after a week or two, you may get blocked.
7. Give an unbiased testimonial on a product/service you have used in exchange for a backlink to your site.
8. Start a blog and submit it to the 100’s of free blog directories.
Always “Ping” your blog on Pingomatic.com every time you post an article.
9. Manually submit your website to the major search engines. This can be very time consuming. I will talk later about how to optimize your site and get the search engine spiders to pick it up without manually submitting.
10. Use the Social Networks Create pages on Facebook, My Space, LinkedN and many more. Always use your REAL NAME on these, not a cutzy nickname. You want people to know who you are. Create the page from a point of view of fun but also spotlighting your business. You want people to know who you are and what you do.
